AWS Launches AMI Lineage for Full Image Security Visibility

Amazon Web Services introduced AMI Lineage, a service that records every change to Amazon Machine Images from creation through patching and retirement. The platform aggregates data into a centralized dashboard, showing compliance status, patch metrics, and logs of automated remediation actions for each AMI.

For security teams, AMI Lineage provides an auditable trail that eliminates blind spots in the image supply chain. Continuous visibility lets defenders quickly spot drift, verify that required patches are applied, and trigger remediation before vulnerable images reach production, thereby reducing the attack surface and simplifying compliance reporting.
